How it all began...
It all started in 2014 when Ciaran got Erica a Christmas present that she had always wanted... a beekeeping course!
Soon after, they decided that the bustling city life was no longer for them and made the move to an acreage near Cochrane, Alberta. Their first venture was to make their beekeeping dream a reality! In doing so, they hoped to help the struggling bee population, as well as gain the bees' pollination skills, liquid gold and waxy benefits.
In the spring of 2016, following in her Grandpa Varley's footsteps, Ciaran and Erica purchased a couple of honeybee hives . They had their first honey harvest in September and were delighted that the bees produced enough honey to share with family and friends. Excitedly, they discovered their honey had a distinct wildflower flavour that they have yet to taste anywhere else! This is in part due to their neighbour's surrounding acreages, full of native Alberta forage.
Thankfully the bees do not need to travel far!
The first year hives made it through a very wet summer and an extremely cold winter which gave Ciaran the encouragement to bring in more bees! As of spring 2017 there are many more working hives
busily buzzing away on our homestead.
